Principles I Bring to My Work

Center those closest to the problem I am working to solve

There are many types of expertise, including lived expertise and those who’ve devoted their lives to working on the frontlines of an issue. I rely heavily on the wisdom of others who are closest to the problems I am working to solve.

Change is a team sport

For too long, the narrative around creating change has been about individual heroes. In reality, change takes collective action. Transforming entire ecosystems takes many hands, hearts, and minds moving in unison towards something greater than ourselves.

Culture is everything

Organizational culture is like the health of a human body: without it, nothing else matters.

Listen deeply

Too often, we barely listen with our ears. Imagine for a moment listening to ourselves and others with our full presence and being. When you listen deeply, what do you hear and understand? What do others’ words, bodies, and actions tell you? And, what does your own body, heart, and soul tell you? Our bodies are filled with wisdom. What does it say?

Maintain a beginner’s mindset

I love to learn and believe that we grow the most when we stay open and curious about the world around us and are brave enough to ask questions and imagine new possibilities. Just because I’ve seen something many times before one way, doesn’t mean it is the right path forward!

The power of play

I’m convinced we don’t create enough space to play after early childhood. Play deepens connection, unleashes creativity, boosts health and morale, and can shift power dynamics. Where can play be brought into our work together?
