The time is now for more youth leaders.

In a world experiencing crises and leadership distrust, youth leadership development, particularly in the Global South, presents a much needed and under-leveraged opportunity to improve outcomes for communities globally.

"The Catalysts: A Call for Greater Investment in Developing Young Leaders in the Global South," produced in 2023 with the generous support of Schmidt Futures, aggregates the collective challenges and wisdom from front-line organizations on how to deepen the impact and scale of the youth leadership development field.

Across conversations, a number of promising solutions emerged to address the challenges that were posed, broadly falling into three recommendations:

  1. Deepen philanthropic partnerships: Increase funding and partnerships to fill core landscape gaps and enable existing organizations to increase impact

  2. Support convening and field alignment: Support the development of convening bodies/umbrella organizations to align the youth leadership development field, players across ecosystems, and the learning and research agenda

  3. Invest in impact measurement: Develop, aggregate, and disseminate tools, approaches, and resources to increase learning and outcomes in the space and support organizations in securing more funding to power their work
